Stag beetle larvae and a close call with fire wood

  Stag Beetle larvae, Lucanus cervus,feeding on rotting willowThese two specimens had a close call when they where found in some wood being chopped up for the fire-they now have a new piece of wood in a quiet corner ,where they can pupate ,and emerge as adult stag beetles in early summer
